Nursing sees patients thru their entire course of radiation treatments. From their initial consultation visit, to on-treatment checks and follow-up visits. We also perform special radiation brachytherapy procedures which involves placement of instruments for internal radiation. Nursing triages patient care on a daily basis, provide education regarding treatments and the emotional support and reassurance patients need to completed their treatments.
What do you enjoy about SRCC?:
I enjoy working with cancer patients. When I first started my nursing career in 1988 I started on 3South at Kaweah Delta. At that time, 3South was mostly Oncology and a medical/surgical unit. I knew then that my nursing career would be with cancer patients. I strive to provide an atmosphere of comfort and ease with our patients coming in everyday for their treatments here at SRCC. I try to provide education to our patients so that they understand why they are receiving their treatments, the side effects of radiation and outcomes or follow-up care. I feel nursing is one of the most important part of the patient's experience thru their cancer journey.
